To help shape Lincoln’s transition to become a resource efficient and climate resilient city

Lincoln has an ambition to be a carbon neutral city by the year 2030. This is an ambitious challenge that a wide range of public, private and third sector partners have all signed up to achieving. Since the City of Lincoln Council declared a state of climate emergency on the 23rd July 2019, a road map, highlighting how Lincoln shall meet its target of being carbon neutral by 2030 has now been drawn up.

This ambition is connected to the city’s wider objectives of being a green city, with a focus on sustainable transport choices, the efficient movement of goods and people and to encouraging sustainable forms of inclusive growth.

Following discussions with key representatives from these sectors, it was agreed that an independent Lincoln Climate Commission should be established which mirrors other such groups set up nationwide. At this exciting moment in Lincoln’s history, the Lincoln Climate Commission is looking for members to come forward to represent these key areas.

Lincoln Climate Commission is an independent advisory body, chaired by the City of Lincoln Council, which provides a secretariat, and vice-chaired by the University of Lincoln. The geographic scope of the Lincoln Climate Commission is the District Council boundary of the City of Lincoln Council. It is likely that the Climate Commission will take into account the wider geography of the Lincoln urban boundary and the Lincoln travel to work boundary, as these spatial geographies have an integral role in assisting the ambition of Lincoln transitioning to a carbon neutral city.

Lincoln Climate Commission is primarily dependent upon voluntary and in-kind contributions with members providing their resources and expertise to drive strategic thinking and promoting on the ground delivery and implementation of projects contribute the wider ambitions of the Climate Commission.
